REWIND AND FAST-FORWARD:
ADISLOCATION IN SPACE AND TIME AS A PROJECTION OF THE SELF
– REFLECTIONS ON CHINESE EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPH
Y AND THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY FROM THE MID-’90S UNTIL TODAY

Host Three Shadows Photography Art Centre
Time Sunday, October 29,2017, 3:00pm
Venue Three Shadows Photography Art Centre
Speakers Huang Rui,RongRong, Anaïse Martane, Dong Bingfeng, Feng Boyi, Nataline Colonnello

The talk moves from the inspirational, collaborative or independently completed photographs of RongRong and Huang Rui to the visual memories of an almostobliterated existence unearthed by French photographer Anaïs Martane in the exhibitions Huang Rui&RongRong: Photo Symbiosis (1994-2001) and Anaïs Martane: Warm-up, both opening at Three Shadows Photography Art Centre and +3 Gallery on October 28, 2017. Discussion will focus on the notion of observation and a viewof the Self as something that we project through photographs. It will interrogate the idea of the “dislocated Self,” a Self that is constantly renegotiating its relationship with time and space.

The nuanced eye of the outsider, an insider’s perspective on radical breaks from history, the broad bird’s eye view: they allpicture a single reality in constant transformation, a transformation affectingtwo planes –- the interior world and the outside world. This singlereality is interpreted by very different yet kindred intellects. Artists HuangRui, RongRong, and Anaïs Martane share the conversation with critics Feng Boyi, Dong Bingfeng and Nataline Colonnello, swapping experiences and observations about the development of Chinese experimental photography over the past twenty years.
